Cat illness is difficult to detect. Here are some symptoms
to watch for
Trying to determine if your cat has a cat illness is difficult,
much like it is with any animal. Often the only way to tell if
your cat is ill is to watch for subtle changes in routine. Most
cats are creatures of habit. They expect to be fed at certain times,
sleep during certain hours, etc. When there is a break in this
normal routine then it may be a sign of a cat illness.
When my cat has a cat illness it is quite obvious, since he
rarely misses a feeding. If he isn't meowing at the fridge first
thing in the morning I start to look for signs of health problems.
Usually I let him continue to do as he pleases but I keep an
eye on him throughout the day.
Most of the time he sleeps the cat illness off and is back to
his normal surly self. Other times the health problem persists
and if he refuses to eat later in the day then I become more concerned.
Most of the time he doesn't require cat medicine to help with
his health problems. I simply make sure he continues to drink
lots of water.
How do you make a sick cat drink?
To get over a cat illness it is essential that he continues
to drink but when he is sick he doesn't drink willingly. That
is when I take a clean face cloth and wet it down. Then use it
to wet down my cats fur. This has worked flawlessly. A cats natural
obsession with cleanliness will make them clean their fur. After
a day or two he usually gets over whatever cat illness it was
making him sick.
SOmetimes a cat illness doesn't pass after a day or two. This
is when you need to take your cat to the vet. Cat medicines may
need to be administered to help your cat get better.
If you notice some of the symptoms below contact your vet immediately.
- Straining to urinate: Could mean a urinary tract infection
which can be life threatening.
- Violent vomiting or panting are symptoms of serious illness.
When your cat catches a cat illness a call to your vet is always
recommended. Early diagnosis of a cat illness can reduce pain
and suffering for your cat and reduce costs for treatment.
