Cat Diabetes is on the rise, diabetic cat food can help control
it
The rise in cat diabetes over the past few decades can be caused
by a couple of factors. Like people, cat illness is easier to diagnose
with the improvement in diagnostic tools. More likely though, the
rise in cat diabetes is due to the decline in quality of main stream
cat foods. This is true with any animal.
Cat diabetes (feline diabetes) can be attributed to an inactive
lifestyle combined with high calories, high fiber diets. Lets face
it, rendered fat and vegetables aren't a part of a cats natural
diet.
Diabetic cat food is one product that is formatted more along
the lines of what a cat would eat in nature.
With high protein
and low fiber a diabetic cat is more likely to loose weight
and become more active.
This is apparent when a cat with diabetes feeds on a typical
commercial cat food and will eat continuously. When the same cat
eats a diabetic cat food that is lower in fat with high protein,
he will eat considerably less and feel satisfied.
A cat with diabetes should be put onto a diet that is low in
fat with high protein. Food that uses extrusion during the cooking
process actually converts complex carbohydrates, especially those
found in corn, mostly to sugar. This is obviously not a normal
part of any cats diet in the wild.
Cat diabetes should be treated with a diabetic cat food that
is formulated not to aggravate your cats health problems. A consultation
with your vet is a must to help determine the proper course of
action to take.
